Chapter 12

Revenge

This disgusting little blot on the landscape sued Colin in an attempt to blackmail him into using his talents to produce more millions for the blot. He had seriously misjudged Colin. Most businessmen tend to think of highly intelligent people as fools. Maybe this is because many such people are not streetwise and actually are fools. Just why the blot should have made this mistake with Colin after seven years close association is hard to understand. Perhaps it was because Colin had learned to keep his own counsel.

Many years before Colin had been at a youth club with some friends one night when a group of visitors started a minor fight. Colin and his friends stayed well out of the way. By pure bad luck one of the gang chose Colin as a victim and taunted him. Colin ignored him as the group waked home and then a beat-policeman came along and the gang ran away. They had somehow identified him and pursued him for several months determined to get even for their invented slight. Colin simple evaded them. It was not hard.

One day several months later six of them cornered him in a shop in town. He threatened them verbally, six to one against and they backed down. One of them was a very distinctive character and Colin never forgot him. Thirty years later he discovered the man was a business partner of an acquaintance of long standing. Colin had never given him a thought in the last thirty years but he had not forgotten.

Months later a salesman came into the factory and in the course of conversation mentioned he had lost a large order that day which he had been expecting from Colin’s old enemy. The man had instead bought some second hand equipment at a very good price. Later that same day Colin rang one of his suppliers with an urgent job and was told it could not be done because his equipment had been stolen in a burglary the night before. Bells started ringing in Colin’s head. He took details of the stolen equipment and called the salesman for a comparison. There was little doubt Colin knew exactly where the stolen equipment now was. Colin made only one more phone call and the equipment was restored to its rightful owner and Colin had his revenge after thirty years.

One day Colin might get a chance to avenge himself on the evil little shit who sued him because Colin hadn’t made him enough millions while he was defrauding the too trusting Colin with his evil schemes. If the chance occurs Colin will feel no doubts or fear. He will nail the bastard.

Colin learned as a very young boy not to tell lies. They always come back. He learned in the Isle of Man not to break the law. You might get whipped. An older friend in Canada once advised him” If you can’t say something nice, say nothing”. He has always tried to heed that advice. Malicious gossip has a way of coming back. But Colin has also learned that there are some very nasty people on earth and sometimes you just have to fight.
